Community Outreach Services in Speech/ Language and Physical Therapy

Residential Services Inc. (RSI) is a private, non-profit organization that provides living options and related supports to over 120 individuals of all ages with developmental disabilities with/without dual diagnoses in 16 residences and the Spring Glen Retirement Community. RSI promotes quality of life by maximizing self-determination, developing independent living skills, promoting community involvement, facilitating meaningful social roles, and teaching socially responsible behavior. Physical therapy and speech-language pathology teams from the CIDD collaborate with RSI to provide comprehensive services to RSI residents. These services enable administrators/caregivers to understand how to use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and PT services in an effective manner and how to incorporate individual strategies into the environment to reduce caregiver dependency. In addition to development of special program features specific to Residential Services, Inc. CIDD trainees are invited to observe and participate in an interdisciplinary manner.
